Decorate an Elegant Christmas Tree – 2022 Trends

The festive season is just around the corner, making it the perfect time to plan your Christmas decor. Explore these 2022 trends and timeless decorating tips to create an elegant holiday display that reflects your style.

Artificial Tree or Real Tree?
Start by choosing a tree that suits your space and decor. Artificial trees come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors, offering plenty of flexibility. If you prefer a real tree, visit a local tree lot or nursery to find one that fits your home. Once you have your tree, you’re ready to decorate.
Best Place to Put the Christmas Tree
Choose a location where your Christmas tree can shine without blocking walkways or creating a tripping hazard. Consider how visible it will be from different parts of your home, keeping it away from heat sources. The living room is a classic choice, but it isn’t the only option. A spacious foyer offers a festive welcome, while an open area near a staircase or a bedroom can add a magical touch. Wherever you place your tree, leave enough room to move around it comfortably.

Colors, Lights & Ornaments
Let your personal style guide your choice of colors and ornaments. White, gold, and silver create an elegant palette, while red, white, green, and gold offer a traditional look. For a nature-inspired tree, try pinecones, dried fruit, and other natural accents. For a trend-inspired 2022 look, consider blue and gold or pink and gold.

Combine different shades of pink with subtle gold accents for a modern, elegant finish, or choose an all-white palette for an effortlessly chic display.

Many artificial trees are pre-lit. If yours isn’t, or if you have a real tree, add the lights before any decorations. Lights come in a variety of colors, ranging from soft white to bright white and multicolor changing lights. Depending on the mood you want, that will determine the color light you will use. For a traditional cozy feel a soft white is recommended, for a modern feel use a bright white and multicolor lights have a playful energetic mood. Space your lights evenly and check the overall effect before hanging ornaments. Work from the bottom up, distributing ornaments throughout the branches for a balanced look. Choose sizes that complement your tree: larger ornaments suit a large tree, while smaller ornaments keep a compact tree in proportion.

Choose ornaments that support your theme. Classic baubles suit a traditional tree, while handmade decorations add a personal touch. For a whimsical look, mix in toys and candy canes.

Ribbon adds texture and a polished finishing touch. Wrap plaid ribbon loosely around the tree for a traditional look or layer ribbons of different widths and textures in soft cascades for a more lavish effect. Sheer silver ribbon adds a delicate shimmer, while satin ribbon can be tucked into the branches from top to bottom for an elegant vertical arrangement. For a sophisticated alternative to classic holiday colors, try black and white ribbon. Burlap ribbon with red accents brings warmth and texture to a cozy, rustic tree.
Gift Boxes
Complete the display with gift boxes around the base of your tree. Choose wrapping paper in a solid color, such as gold, red, or white, and add contrasting bows that coordinate with your paper. Finish the base with a traditional tree skirt or a modern tree collar. They come in wicker, metal, rattan, and wood finishes offer options to suit a range of styles.

Tree Topper
A thoughtfully chosen tree topper brings the whole display together. Try a snowflake, star, angel, or a generous bow that complements your theme, and secure it carefully at the top of the tree.

With a coordinated palette and a few thoughtful finishing touches, you can create an elegant Christmas tree that feels uniquely yours. Enjoy choosing your decorations and bringing your holiday vision to life!
